Below is a copy of the letter that has been emailed to a number of offices and organizations including the Ministry of Education and the Executive Yuan. Much thanks to certain members of TADIT including Ellery Hamann and David Ting for your help and contributions. We have already received a couple of responses and will report on them shortly. If you have suggestions of a group or organization to whom a copy of this letter should be sent, please let us know.

  1. It is great to see you guys tackling such an important topic in Taiwan. It is extremely disheartening to see the contributions of many people in an increasingly multicultural Taiwan are often undervalued or wholly not recognized It would be of great benefit if those in power could begin to correct their own attitudes which promote exclusion. President Ma Ying Jiu is a perfect example. When he makes claims that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are from the same race or ethnic group, share the same blood, or are “all sons of the Yellow Emperor” he is employing deeply exclusionary language, completely ignoring Taiwan’s aboriginal inhabitants and many other groups of people that are now citizens or residents of Taiwan. It would be greatly helpful if Mr. Ma Ying Jiu and others who use this race and blood-based talk were held to account for their divisiveness and ignorance.
